Craft Activities for Parties Are Great for a Variety of Ages, for Both Boys and Girls.
Craft activities are great for children’s parties. Most children like to make things and be creative. The outcome of the activity can also double up as the party favour for the children to take home, thus killing two birds with one stone.
When choosing craft activities for parties make sure you choose something that is age appropriate and consider where you will be hosting the party; will the craft activity be too messy? Will you need access to water? Can you easily get hold of all the materials and tools required? Will the children require additional adult supervision? Etc.
For general craft materials you can get lots of great things from The Works, Baker Ross, your local DIY store, Flying Tiger and Poundland.
Rock Painting
You’ll need flat and smooth rocks, acrylic paint and brushes, or acrylic pens, sealer/varnish. There’s a big rock hunting craze which the children might like to join in; hiding painted rocks in parks, playgrounds etc for other people to find – check out the Facebook page Love on the Rocks UK.
Jewellery Making
If you are hosting a girlie party, then you might like the children to make beaded jewellery. You can buy ready made kits or you could buy what you need at your local haberdashery. Alternatively you could upcycle and buy secondhand necklaces from charity shops or car boot sales and use the beads to make new jewellery.
Decorating a T-shirt, Hat or Bag
I love these decorating packs from Selfie Craft, who offer caps, tops, pyjamas and super hero capes! You could also buy your own shirts and use use fabric pens and glue to add embellishments such as beads and sequins. Kidly have some lovely backpacks the children can colour in, or you could buy some fabric totes from Baker Ross.
Scrap Booking
A fun activity for kids to do, scrap booking about their last holiday, what they like to do at home, what they want to be when they grow up, or something to do with the theme of the party? Hobbycraft has a good selection of scrap booking bits and bobs.
Bookmarks
The children could decorate bookmarks with paint, or pressed flowers etc. You could then laminate them; you can buy lamination machines for about £20
Decorate a Crown
The children could decorate paper crowns with paint, pom-poms, tissue paper, leaves they collect from the garden etc. Baker Ross has a good selection of crowns.
Decorate Fairy Doors
Baker Ross and Hobbycraft both have gorgeous little wooden fairy doors that the children can decorate.
Decorate Masks
Depending on the theme of the party, the children can decorate masks, perhaps animal masks, or superhero masks, etc. Baker Ross and Hobbycraft both have a good selection of masks to choose from.
Decorate Biscuits or Cupcakes
Whether you make the cupcakes and cookies or buy them readymade, the children will love decorating them and can then take them home in their party bag.
Dough Modelling
Air drying clay or Fimo (that needs to be baked in the oven) can be used to model animals, vehicles, Christmas decorations etc.
Bubbles
There are lots of projects you can do with bubbles. You can make a bubble snake, a giant bubble wand, or even bubble painting. Here’s a good bubble solution recipe: 4 cups of warm water, 1/2 cup of sugar and 1/2 cup of washing up liquid.
Colouring in Competition
The competition could be to colour in a picture that is related to the theme of the party. At The Cherry Tree has a lovely butterfly you can download for free, or you can find lots of options on Twinkl.
Pom-Pom Party
The children can make pom-poms and turn them into animals, headbands, decorations etc.
Create a Fairy Garden
