Creative Ideas for Kids to Celebrate The Coronation.
The coronation of King Charles III is a historic event that will be celebrated all over the UK. This is a great opportunity to get your kids involved in the festivities and teach them about British history and culture, while also creating lasting memories. The date is now fast approaching and if you are still looking for ideas for games and activities that will keep the children entertained, I have lots of ideas below for you.
Games and Activities
- Royal Treasure Hunt: Hide small treasures around the house or garden and give your kids clues to find them. You could even make the treasures ‘royal’ themed.
- Write a Letter to The King. Encourage your kids to write a letter to the new king expressing their congratulations and well wishes. You can even mail the letter to Buckingham Palace.
- Decorate Your Home. You can buy royal-themed decorations at most party stores, or you can make your own red, white, and blue decorations to show your support for the new king. I have lots of ideas of decorations you could make in my blog Eco-Friendly Party Decorations
- Read Royal Books. There are many different royal books that you can read to your kids. These books can help them learn more about the royal family’s history.
- Royal Games: There are many different royal-themed games that you can play with your kids, such as pin the crown on the king, royal charades, or how about a royal relay race: set up a relay race where the kids have to dress up in royal attire, run to the end of the garden and back, and pass on the attire to the next team member. The team that finishes first wins. - Carnival Games: These could be great if you are having a street party, you can find lots of ideas for these in my blog Carnival Style Party Games.
- Host a Royal Picnic: Pack a basket full of your kids’ favourite foods and drinks, and spread out a blanket in your backyard or local park. You can even dress up in your finest royal attire for the occasion.
- Throw a Coronation Tea Party: Invite your friends and neighbours over for a coronation party. You can serve royal-themed food and drinks, play royal games, and watch the coronation ceremony together. Ask your kids to dress up in their best clothes and pretend to be royalty.
- Visit a Royal Palace: If you live near a royal palace, take your kids on a visit. This is a great way to learn more about British history and culture.

Craft Activities
- Royal Banner: Let your kids make a royal banner using construction paper, markers, and glitter. Hang it up in the living room to add to the celebration.
- Royal Invitation: If you are going to host a party, you can help your kids make their own royal invitations using construction paper, stickers, and glitter. Send them to friends and family inviting them to the party.
- Royal Scepter: Make royal scepters using wooden dowels, beads, and ribbon.
- Royal Family Tree: Create a royal family tree using paper and markers. Teach your kids about the royal family and their history.

- Create a Coronation Scrapbook: Collect photos, newspaper clippings, and other mementos from the coronation to create a scrapbook that your kids can cherish for years to come.
- Make a Paper Crown: This is a classic coronation activity that kids of all ages will love. You could either decorate with paper, glitter, stickers and jewels or go for the more eco option by running a strip of double sided tape round the crown and get the kids to stick leaves and flowers along it.
- Cake Baking Competition: If your street is hosting a street party, all the kids could bake a coronation themed cake for a #GBBO style baking competition and perhaps you can have a guest judge.
