Give Preloved Toys with Confidence: The Sustainable Option.

As a mum, I know that finding the perfect present for your child’s friend or family member can be a challenge. But what if I told you that you could save money, reduce waste, and care for the planet all at the same time? That’s right! Giving preloved toys as presents is now socially acceptable, and in this blog post, I will explain why. I’ll also share resources and ideas for repurposing preloved toys, and introduce my new Preloved Presents wrapping paper and gift tags that make it easier and more acceptable to give pre-owned presents.

Benefits of Giving Preloved Toys as Presents

Giving preloved toys as presents not only saves you money, but it also reduces waste and supports sustainable living. By repurposing toys, you are reducing the demand for new toys to be produced, which means less manufacturing, packaging, and shipping. This in turn reduces the carbon footprint of the toys, making them an eco-friendly option for gift-giving. Plus, the joy of receiving a toy that has a history and story behind it can be just as meaningful as a brand new one.

Resources for Finding Preloved Toys

There are many resources available for finding preloved toys in the UK. Popular online platforms like eBay, Kidsie, The Octopus Club, Facebook Marketplace, and Vinted are great places to start. Or, to make things even easier, you could use Rumage, which searches most of the secondhand marketplaces for you, so you can essentially shop all your favourite marketplaces in one place – magic!  Additionally, local car boot or garage sales, NCT nearly new sales, and mum2mum markets can be found in most areas. Charity shops and Freecycle are also great options, as well as Facebook groups dedicated to giving away items for the cost of postage eg Preloved to Reloved for Postage.  Selfridges even has a seasonal pop-up shop for pre-loved toys.

New Twists on Giving Preloved Toys

saw a lovely post on Facebook where a mother gifted her sons pre-loved toys to her nephew for his birthday and then the money she would have spent on a birthday present for him, she put in his piggy bank. I love another mums post that said she had told her children that Father Christmas recycles toys. So, every Christmas Eve the children leave out a pile of their toys (that they have now outgrown) and Father Christmas takes these toys away with him when he delivers their gifts and re-gifts their old toys. (A great way to reduce the clutter in your house right before Christmas too!).
