Halloween Party Games for Children

Games and Activities to Keep Your Little Ghouls Entertained.

While many of us will spend Halloween traipsing the streets with our children, while they collect more sugary treats than most of us will eat in a year, it can be just as much fun (probably even more so for us adults) to organise some spooky games at home.

To begin with there are of course the Halloween favourites such as apple bobbing, donuts on a string and a pumpkin carving/decorating competition.  Next up, you have a number of family favourites and old school party games that you could give a halloween twist to such as Charades, Bingo, Pictionary, scavenger hunt, who am I and ‘Dracula’ says. You may also want to throw a murder mystery party; you can find these online, tailored to children.

Here are some other spooktastic game ideas for you.

Beanbag Toss

The kids throw their beanbags and try to get them into the mouth of a carved pumpkin.  You could have different sized pumpkins with varying sized mouths and give each one a score dependant on the difficulty.

Ginger Beer Pong

Just like beer pong but with ginger beer and the ping pong balls are painted to look like eyeballs.

‘Eyeball’ and Spoon Race

Essentially an egg and spoon race, but with a peeled boiled egg or a ping pong ball or golf ball painted to look like an eyeball.

Spiders, Spiders Everywhere…

Hide little spiders (or googlie eyes) around the house and each child has a little bag or bucket to collect as many of them as they can.  The winner is the one with the most spiders at the end.

Mummy’s

In teams of two, one child has to wrap the other in a toilet roll, like a mummy, as quickly as they can.  The quickest team wins.

Sweet Hunt

The kids have to fish out sweets from a plate of flour, using only their mouths.  Best done following the apple bobbing, so all the flour sticks to their faces!

Creepy Quoits

A traditional game of quoits, but instead of throwing the hoops over the posts, you set up some witches hats for the kids to throw the hoops over.

Pin the Tail on The….

Cat, or the broomstick on the witch, or the spider on the web.

Eyeball Race

Each child gets a straw and a ping pong ball decorated to look like an eyeball and the kids have to blow their ping pong ball with their straw to see whose ball crosses the line first.

Sweet Jar

Gather up all the halloween stash and pop them all in a large jar and get the kids to guess how many sweets are in the jar.  If nothing else, it will help with the tidying up!

Hide and Shriek

Hide some grizzly things in a series of old shoe boxes and cut a hole in them so the kids can put their hands in each box and guess what they can feel.  Or just put the items in a series of bowls and get the children to wear a blindfold.  You could hide things such as a plastic spider, plastic ear, peeled lychee or grapes or a boiled egg (for eyeballs), frankfurters (for fingers), cooked spaghetti (for brains), the scooped out insides of a pumpkin (for intestines) and popcorn kernels (for teeth).

Alternatively you could hide the objects in a big bucket of goo, such as cold custard, cold gloopy porridge or homemade slime and get the kids to put their hands in to feel for the objects and guess what they are.

Spooky Decorating

Decorating cupcakes, cookies or marshmallows in a spooky theme.  Or you could give the kids an upturned ice cream cone each, which they can decorate with icing, sprinkles and little sweets, to make a witches hat.

If you are kids are feeling creative, then there are lots of crafting ideas too.
